President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov will pay a visit to Kazakhstan, according to a press release posted on the official Kazakh presidential website on December 6.
Jeenbekov had a phone conversation today with his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev. They discussed bilateral and regional issues and schedule of upcoming visits, including Jeenbekov's visit to Kazakhstan.
"The presidents pointed out the importance of further implementation of the road map signed by the governments of two countries on December 2 in Astana," the statement said.
"President of Kyrgyzstan thanked the head of state for lifting enhanced border control and switching to a routine Kazakh-Kyrgyz border regime," the statement said.
Kazakhstan introduced tougher check of all trucks crossing the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border from October 10 after then-President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev criticized high-ranking Kazakh authorities accusing them of meddling in Kyrgyzstan's domestic affairs and presidential election of October 15, 2017.
Jeenbekov and Nazarbayev met on November 30 in Minsk, Belarus and agreed to work out a plan to resolve the situation. On December 2, Governments of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan signed a road map to solve the border issues. Since December 3, jams of trucks earlier seen on the border disappeared and all trucks started passing the border without any delays.
