Kyrgyzstan is recognizable and respected in the international arena. The republic, as a full-fledged participant in global processes, has received this recognition thanks to its balanced and clear foreign policy and the principled course of the country's leadership, based on national interests.
Over the past 33 years, a long and difficult path has been taken in the development of domestic diplomacy. At the same time, experts emphasise that the most important in terms of consolidating Kyrgyzstan's position as a full-fledged subject of international law have been the last few years, when Sadyr Zhaparov headed the state. This period is of key importance not only from the point of view of the republic's image, it is a time of clear definition of positions, vector and nature of the development of relations. Kyrgyzstan is open to friendship and cooperation with everyone, on the terms of respect for sovereignty, national interests, as well as the culture and history of Kyrgyzstan. Any interaction is built on trust and benefit.
Sadyr Zhaparov recently emphasised, our country does not recognize the "fist law" in international politics; this is the firm position of the leadership and people of our country. "Kyrgyzstan stands for a fair and non-discriminatory international economic order, universal access to the benefits of the world economy and modern technologies," the President of Kyrgyzstan said at the recent BRICS summit.
The country also fully participates in other international organisations the SCO, the EAEU and the CIS, maintains contacts with EU countries and, of course, is an active participant in all structures that are part of the UN system. Kyrgyzstan has put forward its candidacy for non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.
At the anniversary celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sadyr Zhaparov once again emphasised that the ancestors of the Kyrgyz people pursued the same peace-loving policy with their neighbours 5 thousand years ago. At that time embassies were already opened in China, which built the first bridges of friendship and mutual understanding. Kyrgyzstan defends the principle of peaceful coexistence of states even now, at all international platforms and negotiations.
"As our folk wisdom says: "Until two peoples become friends, two mountains will not come together." Kyrgyzstan is increasingly expanding its international ties with other countries. At present, our diplomats not only strengthen international relations, but also create new opportunities for the development of the country. The bridges of friendship that you have built, mutual respect and partnership with other countries, have become the basis for the recognition of Kyrgyzstan in the international arena as a state advocating for peace and striving for joint development," the head of state noted. In a recent interview with Kabar News Agency, former Foreign Minister Alikbek Dzhekshenkulov noted that Kyrgyzstan’s diplomatic service has gone through a difficult path of development, and now we can say that our country’s foreign policy has created the conditions for achieving the successes in development that we are seeing now.
"Kyrgyzstan adheres to a very balanced course in foreign policy. This allowed us to integrate into those international structures that correspond to national interests, allow development and bring benefits. The republic and our diplomacy have withstood very serious pressure, but we have not strayed from the chosen course and continue to maintain an independent position in the international arena, defending a principled position and remaining open to useful contacts.
Of course, the world is changing dramatically now. New poles of influence, centres of economic development that influence world politics are emerging. When the interests of strong powers collide, it is always difficult. Therefore, consistency, responsibility and integrity are the three pillars of diplomacy, relying on which Kyrgyzstan defends its national interests. Over the years, we have always tried to adhere to an open and clear position, and do not close ourselves off from the outside world. For more than 30 years, our country has been pursuing exactly this kind of peaceful foreign policy that ensures sustainability and stability," Alikbek Dzhekshenkulov summed up.
Doctor of Law, Associate Professor of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Temirbek Nurmatov says that Kyrgyzstan's consistent, pragmatic and principled position on the world stage has allowed it to achieve significant results in building constructive relations with many countries.
"Today, Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy is balanced and consistent. Our diplomacy is open, multi-vector and committed to multilateral cooperation. Much work is being done both in international organisations and on a bilateral basis. Promoting national interests is a serious task and is aimed at mutually beneficial development of the economy and trade. We have achieved tangible results with neighbouring countries.
For example, within the framework of the EAEU, issues of free movement of goods, services, labour and capital are gradually being resolved. Within the framework of this organisation, we aim to achieve easing the conditions of stay of migrants in the territory of partner countries. And the topics we outline, of course, do not go unnoticed. Real work is underway, although it encounters certain difficulties, but positive changes have already been achieved.
Within the UN, our president participates in the General Assembly meetings. And the role of Kyrgyzstan in this organisation is not formal, we offer our initiatives on the climate agenda and green economy. The idea of protecting mountainous countries, put forward by Sadyr Zhaparov, found understanding in the United Nations," said Temirbek Nurmatov.
The achievements of modern diplomacy of Kyrgyzstan are of decisive importance not only for the development of the country, but also change the geopolitical landscape of the entire region and even Eurasia. Thanks to the establishment of relations with the closest neighbours, which were not always simple, agreements were reached on the construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power station. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan not only supported this project, but expressed their readiness to participate in it on equal mutually beneficial terms. And the relations with China, brought to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, create favourable conditions for the creation of a large transit corridor, leading Central Asia out of the transport impasse and opening up opportunities for significant economic advancement and increased trade between many countries of the continent. The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project has already been dubbed a flagship project, and its implementation will begin in the very near future.
