United Kingdom becomes main buyer of Kyrgyz gold once again

14.08.2024

In the first half of 2024, Kyrgyzstan increased gold exports by 18%. Such conclusions can be drawn based on the data of the National Statistical Committee.

In total, in January-May, Kyrgyzstan exported 5.7 tonnes of gold worth $405 million. If we compare the weight of exports, this is 18% more (34% more in total exports) than in the same period of 2023, when 4.8 tonnes worth $302 million were exported.

The UK has become the leader in the purchase of Kyrgyz gold over the past 6 months, having purchased more than 2.8 tonnes of precious metal worth $212 million. It is followed by China with an indicator of more than 1.8 tonnes and a value of $129 million. Then there are Switzerland (0.9 tonnes, $63 million) and the UAE (slightly less than 14 kg, $881 thousand).

It should be noted that Kyrgyzstan actively exported gold to China at the beginning of the year. However, the situation changed in April when supplies to the UK resumed, which bought more gold in three months than the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland and China combined in six months.
