Kyrgyz president, Bishkek mayor discuss epidemiological situation in capital

Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov held Tuesday an online meeting with Bishkek Mayor Aziz Surakmatov.

Current epidemiological situation in the capital and measures taken to stabilize it were discussed, the press service of the Kyrgyz President reported.

Surakmatov presented information on work being done to combat the spread of coronavirus infection in Bishkek.

To date, coronavirus infection contamination was laboratory confirmed in 3,434 people, which is 42% of the total number of patients throughout the country.

Aziz Surakhmatov noted 4 daytime inpatient centers have been deployed in all districts of the capital, where more than 3 thousand citizens have received medical care and consultations in recent days. Work is under way to open 5 more such hospitals for a total of 250 beds, which can serve up to 220 people per hour.

According to the mayor, the shortage of ambulances remains one of the most pressing problems.

Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted the need to study the condition of all medical institutions in the capital, including the availability of a reserve of specialists, drawing attention to the lack of effective analysis of the situation.

He emphasized that all people appealing should receive timely medical care.

"In this regard, there should be no privileges for individuals, everyone should have equal access to medical services," the President stressed.

The Kyrgyz leader noted the importance of preparing hospitals for the autumn-winter epidemiological situation, rendering assistance in providing doctors with additional transport.

Concerning the request of the Mayor's Office regarding the shortage of ambulances, Jeenbekov reminded that the Republican Headquarters had been previously recommended to study this issue, including through international development partners. Specific proposals on this issue are expected to be made.

President Jeenbekov stressed the special importance of supporting industrial enterprises, close cooperation with civil society and representatives of business environment on their requests.
