Russia becomes largest investor in Kyrgyzstan in early 2026 as China maintains leadership for 2025

Russia takes first place among the largest investors in Kyrgyzstan following the results of the first quarter, whereas China remained the leader in foreign direct investment volume for the whole of 2025.

According to recent data, in January-March Kyrgyzstan attracted 387 million US dollar in foreign direct investment, which is almost 100 million US dollar more than in the same period of last year.

Russia became the largest investor during this period, investing 134 million US dollar, or more than a third of all incoming investments. China took second place with 80 million US dollar, while the United Arab Emirates occupied the third position with 38 million US dollar.

At the same time, following the results of 2025, China served as the main source of foreign direct investment in Kyrgyzstan. The volume of Chinese investments reached 305.7 million US dollar, allowing Beijing to take first place among all foreign investors of the republic.

In total for 2025, the inflow of foreign direct investment into the economy of Kyrgyzstan constituted 335.4 million US dollar, increasing by 31.4% compared to the previous year. Chinese companies provided the main contribution to this growth.

Besides China, the largest investors following the results of last year included the Netherlands, Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom. A significant portion of foreign investments targets manufacturing, the mining sector, energy and infrastructure projects.
