Kyrgyzstan and Cyprus have agreed to lift their bilateral relations to a completely new level. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev announced this during a high-level meeting with Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos.
According to Kulubaev, the official talks focused heavily on the current state of Kyrgyz-Cypriot interaction, alongside concrete ways to deepen partnerships across political, trade, economic, and humanitarian spheres.
"We have explicitly agreed to take active, practical measures for the comprehensive development of our bilateral relations. Collaborative work will continue to intensify our political dialogue and expand the existing legal and contractual framework. We also agreed to strengthen trade and economic cooperation, identifying tourism, energy, and investments as our top mutual priorities. Furthermore, a double taxation avoidance and fiscal evasion prevention agreement was officially signed between the two nations. I am completely confident that this document will cultivate highly favorable conditions for advancing investment and economic ties between our sides," Kulubaev stated.
The minister also pointed out that expanding educational and cultural exchanges was raised during the negotiations. Additionally, the Kyrgyz side formally invited Cyprus to participate in the upcoming Second Global Mountain Summit, which is scheduled to take place in Bishkek.
The two diplomats also exchanged views on pressing issues on the international and regional agenda, jointly emphasizing the clear need for a peaceful resolution to any disputes on the basis of international law and the UN Charter.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the foreign ministries of Kyrgyzstan and Cyprus signed a formal Cooperation Programme spanning the 2027-2028 period.
Constantinos Kombos arrived in Kyrgyzstan on an official state visit a day prior. Earlier today, he engaged in an extended-format working session with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Jeenbek Kulubaev.
