President Sadyr Zhaparov, on 5 June, received the ministers of internal affairs and public safety of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states. The presidential administration reported this.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on current challenges of our time, including those related to the rapid development of digital technologies. The parties emphasised the importance of strengthening information security and joint response to cyber threats.
The head of state stressed that the meeting takes place in a landmark period in the year of the 25th anniversary of the Organisation and the chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan in it, conducted under the motto "25 years of the SCO: together towards sustainable peace, development and prosperity".
In this context, Sadyr Zhaparov emphasised that in conditions of profound transformation of the international system and a crisis of global stability, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation maintains its stability and acts as a reliable mechanism for strengthening trust and security.
Speaking about modern challenges, he noted that the criminal world actively develops artificial intelligence, automates cyberattacks, uses disinformation and creates new channels for illegal financial flows. The head of state stressed that this is precisely why practical steps to strengthen the institutional base of the SCO acquire special importance.
Among the important measures being taken, he designated the creation of a Universal Centre for Countering Security Threats on the basis of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, which will combine the Centre for Countering Transnational Organised Crime in Bishkek and the Information Security Centre in Tashkent.
The president emphasised that the position of Kyrgyzstan is unvaried: security in the SCO space must be prospective capable of predicting and preventing threats before they cause damage.
In his turn, SCO Secretary General Nurlan Ermekbaev expressed gratitude to the head of state for personal attention to issues of cooperation in the Organisation, including issues of strengthening security.
He also congratulated Sadyr Zhaparov and the people of Kyrgyzstan on the election of the country as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028, emphasising that this achievement is a convincing testament to the high international authority of Kyrgyzstan and recognition of its contribution to strengthening peace and security.
The Secretary General of the Organisation also emphasised the active and fruitful chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan in the SCO. In addition to putting forward important initiatives and work on preparing for the Summit, meetings of relevant mechanisms also take place. He noted that today's meeting of ministers of internal affairs and public safety resumed its work since 2022 at the initiative of the Kyrgyz side.
