Kyrgyzstan and Germany discuss support for German community and development of cultural cooperation

The 17th meeting of the Kyrgyzstan-Germany Intergovernmental Commission on the Affairs of German Citizens Residing in Kyrgyzstan took place.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Meder Abakirov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, and Bernd Fabritius, Federal Government Commissioner for Repatriation Issues and National Minorities of the Federal Republic of Germany, served as co-chairs.

Representatives of relevant state departments of both countries, as well as the People's Council of Germans of Kyrgyzstan public association and the German Humanitarian Aid Fund public foundation, participated in the meeting.

Participants emphasised that the commission maintains the role of a key mechanism for bilateral interaction, and the German community residing in Kyrgyzstan acts as a bridge of friendship between the two peoples.

During the meeting, the participants reviewed the implementation of agreements reached following the previous 16th meeting and outlined further steps to preserve the German language, culture, and national identity of ethnic Germans in Kyrgyzstan.

Specific attention was paid to the issues of supporting the People's Council of Germans of Kyrgyzstan, the German Humanitarian Aid Fund, and the Kyrgyzstan-German House of Friendship and Cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to expanding the teaching of the German language in schools and universities in Kyrgyzstan, as well as developing academic exchanges through the German Academic Exchange Service and the Goethe-Institut.

Agreement was reached on promoting youth and entrepreneurial initiatives, including the activities of the Club of German and Kyrgyzstan-German Entrepreneurs, as well as on continuing cultural, humanitarian, and scientific exchanges.

Following the meeting, a joint communique was signed, consolidating the reached agreements and interaction priorities for the upcoming period.
