The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Adylbek Kasymaliev, holds negotiations with the World Bank Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, in Washington. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. The Cabinet of Ministers reports this.
According to their data, the parties discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues during the meeting.
The Head of the Cabinet of Ministers spoke about the current economic situation in the country. He noted that over the last four years, the average annual economic growth rate was 10.2%, and in 2025, the GDP growth rate reached 11.1%.
"The ongoing reforms allowed for the creation of more than 273,000 new jobs in 2025. High economic growth and positive expectations of the population from the reforms became important factors for increasing the volume of investments in fixed assets by 18.4% compared to 2024," he emphasised.
Furthermore, Kasymaliev added that Kyrgyzstan is ready to adopt the best international experience in various fields, such as the UAE's experience in reforms through the "Government Accelerators" programme and Japan's experience in supporting rural regions and stimulating exports through the "One Village – One Product" project.
He then discussed the current status of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power plant project, which remains one of the most relevant and priority projects for Kyrgyzstan.
Adylbek Kasymaliev also emphasised the importance of mountain regions, which are home to more than 15% of the world's population and provide up to 60–80% of global freshwater reserves. At the same time, these regions are among the ecosystems most vulnerable to climate change.
"The rapid melting of glaciers, land degradation, and the growth of natural disaster risks create threats to water security and the sustainability of the development of mountain countries. In this regard, we urge for the consideration of creating a global financial instrument to support investments in mountain regions through a partnership between the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility," the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers stressed.
In turn, Anna Bjerde highly appreciated Kyrgyzstan's efforts to implement reforms and expressed readiness to support initiatives aimed at the development of agriculture, green energy, and the regions.
She emphasised the importance of the human capital development initiative, adding that this is a key aspect for the sustainable growth and development of the country. She positively assessed the efforts of the Kyrgyzstan authorities aimed at improving education and healthcare, as well as the introduction of programmes contributing to raising the qualifications of the workforce.
Following the negotiations, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further deepening cooperation and implementing joint projects aimed at the sustainable development of the Kyrgyzstan economy. They expressed readiness for active interaction in the fields of infrastructure projects and energy, agriculture, and industry. Both parties also noted the importance of regular dialogue to achieve the set goals and solve the current tasks facing Kyrgyzstan.
