The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov, spoke 9 October, at the Second Central Asia–Russia Summit in Dushanbe, as part of his working visit to Tajikistan.
The head of state stressed that for Kyrgyzstan, the countries of Central Asia and Russia invariably remain key partners. This format is a practical tool for deepening all-round partnership.
Speaking about the current international situation, Sadyr Zhaparov noted that today's meeting is important for a comprehensive discussion of regional issues. In this context, he voiced several proposals.
"Since the First Summit, the security situation in the Central Asian region has fundamentally changed for the better," the President said.
The head of state stated that Russia is a key trade and economic partner for the Central Asian countries and holds one of the leading positions in terms of trade volume and attracted investment.
"All our countries are experiencing dynamic economic growth, a rise in the population's well-being, and an expansion of internal markets. We see great opportunities in implementing major joint infrastructure projects with Russia," Sadyr Zhaparov said.
He also pointed out that cooperation in transport and logistics will ensure an increase in the speed of goods movement and the accessibility of transport infrastructure for the development of the countries' economies.
"The countries of Central Asia are becoming part of international transport corridors that open up access to global markets. I consider it necessary to strengthen joint work to launch projects aimed at realising the transport potential of the region and ensuring the transport connectivity of Russia with China, Iran, and other countries," the head of state noted.
In this regard, it is important to continue working on removing the restrictions and barriers that exist between countries and hinder the development of trade, cargo transportation, and, most importantly, the free movement of working citizens.
In the context of cooperation in energy, Sadyr Zhaparov said that the energy sector of Kyrgyzstan is undergoing large-scale transformations aimed at increasing generation, digitalisation, and eliminating the electricity deficit. The country is actively continuing the phased implementation of projects for the construction of small and medium hydroelectric power plants and renewable energy sources.
"We are interested in acquiring advanced technologies and further mutually beneficial investment cooperation in the hydropower complex," the President stressed.
Another important area is crossborder tourism, which is gaining popularity and attracting tourists from all over the world. The head of state noted that this sector is developing rapidly in Kyrgyzstan and is becoming an important factor in economic growth.
A ski cluster is currently being formed, new tourist facilities are being created, existing ones are being modernised, and airports and roads are being built and updated, including the modern, all-season "Ala-Too Resort" ski resort, the largest in Central Asia, which meets contemporary global standards.
Speaking about environmental protection, Sadyr Zhaparov cited the example of successful bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Russia on the reclamation of territories affected by uranium mining in Kyrgyzstan.
The President noted that cooperation between the countries in the cultural and humanitarian sphere also serves as a solid foundation.
In conclusion of his speech, President Sadyr Zhaparov stressed that Kyrgyzstan aims to develop friendly relationships with its allies and strategic partners, and is committed to continuing an active political dialogue in this format.
