The National Statistics Committee presented data showing that, according to the results of the first eight months of this year, the gross domestic product in Kyrgyzstan exceeded one trillion som, with an increase of more than 10% compared to the results of 2024.
In an interview with Kabar news agency, Doctor of Economics Tolonbek Abdyrov noted that the increase in key indicators was achieved through structural changes in key sectors.
"Statistical data shows that there has been a structural shift in the Kyrgyz economy, with significant growth in the service and construction sectors. For example, GDP increased by 11% in January-August 2025 compared to the same period last year, which is a very good result. The drivers of growth are agriculture, construction, and the service sector. Additionally, the tax administration system has improved, leading to increased budget revenues.
The current issue is to ensure long-term sustainable economic growth in the country. It is important to understand that the country needs active industrialisation and innovation in the industrial sector. We also need to further strengthen food security, as we are fully self-sufficient in three out of nine main food products, and we are close to optimal levels in two of them. Now, we need to strengthen our positions in the remaining areas. This is a niche that domestic producers should occupy, and we need to attract investments to create incentives and new jobs," concluded Tolonbek Abdyrov.
